Hey CYA’s! SAVE THE DATE! Time for our annual hike! It will be a great time to hang out, pray, and enjoy Gods creation! We will meet up somewhere central in OKC and carpool to the trails! The idea is to bring your own lunch and start out the morning hiking until we feel it’s a good time to eat. After lunch we can hike further and see where the trails take us! This is considered to be a beginner’s hike for all abilities. The cost would be very minimal with gas contribution and the hiking fee being a total of less than $10 per person! Please select “going” (if you can make it) so that we have an idea of who is planning to attend and how to plan the carpooling! We will reach out to each person who is interested with more details and where we will carpool from! We hope you can join!

We have all seen the recent news about the Pennsylvania report on sexual abuse perpetrated by priests and covered up by bishops. Perhaps even more disturbingly, a growing chorus of voices confirms that Archbishop McCarrick’s harassment and abuse of seminarians was a well-known open secret on the east coast and in Rome, but this did not prevent his rise through the Church’s hierarchy. How could this happen? Father Simon Zurita will address the historical and theological roots of the current crisis and offer guidance on how we as the laity can respond with charity, humility, and courage. Pizza will be available.

Please meet on the 3rd floor of the Meerschaert house! There is construction in the main parking lot. Please park along N. Kentucky Avenue between 18th and 19th street (or in back lot at the corner of 19th and N. Kentucky). See the red arrows in the map below! See you all soon!

This month we have Dr. Alex Schimpf the director of Marriage & Family Life speaking on discernment!

“St. Thomas Aquinas is known for careful distinctions, not wild statements. Nevertheless, Aquinas’s brief treatment of what people now call “discernment of a religious vocation” can sound almost reckless in its enthusiasm. When it comes to the question of whether one should enter religious life, he says that long deliberation and the counsel of many people are not required! He even dismisses the question of whether the devil could trick someone into religious life: “this would be a good work, and fitting to the good angels.” In short, his attitude seems to be, “Stop discerning already, and just do it!” My talk will look at what motivates St. Thomas to give this uncharacteristically straightforward judgment, and then discuss to what broader lessons we might be able to draw from it for the discernment of other vocations such as the priesthood or the married life.” -Alex Schimpf-

Join us for fellowship, learning, food, and drink!

Many of us are affected by mental illness, either directly as part of our own health or as a support to a friend or family member. Do Catholics have depression or anxiety? How is mental illness diagnosed and treated? What is it like to go to therapy? What can I do to support someone I know with mental illness? Join us as Cassie Olson and Carmen Pischedda, Licensed Professional Counselor (and a Catholic Young Adult), discuss how to care for our mental health as well as we do our physical and spiritual health.

Hello Catholic Young Adults of OKC! Sorry for the late post!

Please join us this THURSDAY, June 21 at 7pm at Blu’s BBQ to enjoy Sister Maria of the Trinity speak on and answer the question: “Why is prayer necessary for work?”

For those of you unfamiliar with her work, Sister Maria has lived the consecrated life since 1990 with great focus on care for some of the most vulnerable of society, in particular care for the elderly poor. Sr. Maria started the Gospel of Life Dwellings (GOLD) in both OKC and Grand Prairie, TX for just this purpose! She has also been working on various other projects in OKC and Norman. Sister Maria earned a BA in Philosophy from the University of Dallas, a BSN from the University of San Francisco, and a diploma from the University of Paris in hospice and palliative care.

We hope to see you all this Thursday!

As always, there will be adoration available from 12pm (Thursday) to 12pm (Friday) at St. Josephs Old Cathedral (just a mile or so from Fassler)! If you are interested, please contact Dominic Hoang (405-204-1012) or Leah Cote (949-923-9018) for the door code to the church.
